The New York Post spoke with Devin Shaffer the lead designer at Decorilla and Anaïs Chaumien founder and interior designer of Brooklyn-based Design by Anaïs, to get the scoop on how to find the right online furniture stores and their expert recommendations.

FAQ with the experts:
What to look for in a reliable online furniture store.
Shaffer noted how the materials are promoted is crucial when it comes to finding a trustworthy online store.
“The materials used in the construction of the furniture should always be promoted by the retailer and I look for this ‘pride section’ in the footer — it’s even better [if it’s stated in] the header of their website,” he told The Post. “Materials have a big impact on any piece of seatings quality and durability.”
Along with that, he always checks the product description for “detailed information about the materials used including the type of wood, fabric or metal.”
Signs an online store produces quality products.
Shaffer advises to check out their guarantees and warranties. “A store that offers guarantees or warranties on its products is likely to stand behind the quality of its products,” he said.
If there are certifications from reputable organizations he finds that’s another good sign as that’ll “verify the quality of the products.” Some of these organizations include the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) for wood products and Oeko-Tex for textiles. Plus, the more certifications there are the better “so if you start to see a list, then you’ve landed on a product and retailer that will bring you zero buyers remorse.”
For Chaumien, it comes down to reviews, product photos and even the brand’s social media presence.
“Photos of the products by customers is an amazing way to have a look at the item outside of a professional shooting (sometimes, you can have bad surprises),” she said. Usually the amount of followers and what they post on their Instagram page can also tell you more about their products.
If an item is priced significantly low, that can also be a good indicator as, according to Chaumien, “that’s not often a great sign.”
Where is the best place to buy online furniture?
When shopping online there are a variety of things to take into consideration. As Chaumien mentioned, checking reviews and photos from actual customers is helpful, so we always like a retailer that has those readily available.
Some of the best online furniture stores that have an abundance of reviews are:
Is it cheaper to buy furniture online?
There are many benefits to buying furniture online. For one thing, you can save time and gas by not having to leave your home, which certainly makes things easier. Another benefit is that many online stores have customer reviews and photos, so you can gain a better idea of how a piece will actually look once it arrives at your door.
Online stores don’t generally have the overhead cost of a traditional brick-and-mortar, which can lead to cheaper prices. However, shipping costs can tack on an extra bill, so it’s important to factor that in before completing your purchase. Some stores that offer free shipping include:
Both online and in-person retailers offer a variety of sales throughout the year, which obviously is wonderful if you’re watching your wallet. Where online stores truly shine, however, is that they can offer a much wider selection of options, making them ideal for people who are determined to find something unique at an amazing price.
