Wahoo Fans Celebrate Past, Present and Future of UVA Women’s Sports

Sunday was a day to celebrate a University of Virginia legend and the future of sports as Wahoo fans of all ages came together at John Paul Jones Arena. The Cavaliers were hosting Syracuse University, but for many in attendance the event was more than another game on the schedule.

At 12:30 p.m., doors opened and excited ticketholders 12 and under filled the concourse to participate in the annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day activities, a collaboration between UVA Athletics and UVA’s Maxine Platzer Lynn Women’s Center.

The lobby came alive with young sports fans racing from one section to the next, throwing, catching, rowing and playing with the big “kids” from UVA sports teams. The University has been participating in the national celebration of female athletes and their achievements since 1996.

And there were plenty of achievements to be celebrated as the day continued.
