We’ve reached the pointy end of the Australian Open, with only four women’s players left in contention. 

The latter of these semi-finals will feature two players many did not expect to go this far, as Dayana Yastremska and Qinwen Zheng do battle for a spot in the first Grand Slam final of 2024. 

This semi-final berth represents the best career finish for both the 15th-ranked Zheng and the 93rd-ranked Yastremska, but only one can make their maiden finals appearance.

She might not be the higher-ranked player, but Yastremska has been on a tear this Australian Open, and we expect this to continue in the semi-finals. 

Attempting to pull a ‘Raducanu’ – winning a Grand Slam as a qualifier – the Ukrainian has gone through the seventh seed MarkétaVondroušová, the 27th seed Emma Navarro, and the 18th seed Victoria Azarenka to name a few. 

It won’t be an easy game for Yastremska, Zheng herself producing a dominant showing this Open, so expect her to push it to three sets. 

But Yastremka’s Cinderella story is too good to ignore, and we’re betting that it will continue for at least one more round.

Considering this, the total game overs seems like an obvious pick, with our prediction having Yastremska claiming the match after three grueling sets. 

Yastremska has only had one match go to three, but three of Zheng’s have gone the distance, and this should make it four.

This will be the first career meeting of Yastremska and Zheng, having never faced off before this semi-final. 

Yastremska has claimed more WTA singles titles than Zheng, 3-2, but Zheng holds the higher all-time ranking of 13, whilst Yastremska has yet to rank higher than 20. 

At five-foot-ten, Zheng holds a three-inch height advantage over the five-foot-seven Yastremska, while the Ukranian is two years Zheng’s senior.
